The role of the graphic designer is to create something beautiful *and* functional from a client's idea. Whatever I create, I am only successful if the design conveys the client's message clearly. As a creative, I value trading the digital tools of my computer for the tactile tools of the painter - my brushes, paints and canvas. Nothing can replace the real feeling of brush in hand and the magic of mixing paints to see what occurs. It can be difficult to make time to nurture the artist within, so I'll often join painting classes (and encourage any of my audience reading this to give them a try). See more»
I've been blessed with a successful career beginning as a website designer and growing into a brand management and design leadership role for my alma mater. Working within UNC's ITS Communications team provides opportunities to lead design projects while also developing and overseeing brand governance.

Carolina Computing Initiative (CCI)
CCI’s marketing materials had become a collection of outdated, disconnected pieces that didn’t align with the University brand. In 2022, I was tasked with rethinking the materials and created a cohesive visual system using UNC colors and shared design elements. The resulting postcards, sales sheet, banners, and stickers worked together as a unified, branded campaign.

Digital Accessibility Office (DAO)
The DAO wanted to refresh its sub-brand from a rigid system of closed squares, grids, and hunter green to something fresher and more aligned with its mission. After conducting a brand survey, I developed a visual identity that reflected the openness and approachability of the DAO staff while emphasizing inclusion and accessible design. I introduced open, casual forms—such as broken circles and complementary modern shapes—along with curves inspired by UNC’s Old Well branding. I also updated the color palette to align with UNC’s friendlier, more casual colors while meeting WCAG 2.0 contrast guidelines.
